Benefits of Malas

There are numerous benefits to wearing a mala, having it close to your body and using it in a mantra or meditation. These benefits comes from the collective effects of its components as well as the energetic practice engaged with it itself.

Rudraksha seeds are used in some of these malas. Rudrasksha create a tremendous, positive energy for the mind, body and soul. They have special powers. What is a Mala?

Malas have been used for thousands of years in Tibet, India, China and Japan -used to recite repetitions of mantras, prayers, affirmations or count breaths.

Most of the ancient religions of the world have a tradition of using some type of mala as tools for devotional meditation. Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism and the Baha’i Faith have all had malas at the heart of their practice.

Mala beads today, can be used for repetitions of mantras, affirmations or prayers, or to count breaths as a mindfulness and meditation practice in and of itself, or as a preparation for meditation. These malas are 108 beads- the traditional, auspicious number used in Hinduism and Buddhism. Using a mala, allows you to keep track of your practice and its duration. It also allows your mind to be distracted from other mundane thoughts- and it quickly draws and focuses your attention into ‘presence’ and feeling centred.

When repeated, the mind is free to be still, while the repetitions are done with minimal conscious effort. From this place of stillness, the intention of your practice and the words being uttered, have more resonance, or energetic power.

 

Mantra and Meditation

Mantras are words of power and uttering them internally or out loud generates high energetic vibrations. Their cumulative effects are stored in the mala in particular, in particular its guru bead, the larger the bead that joins the two strands of silk together.
